There are many aspects why I chose Daphne as my favourite character.
She got over the difficulties.She's a poor girl, she got acquainted with a wealthy Englishman, Maxim de Winter. Daphne wanted to make a success of new life and above all to make Max happy. But when she was sitting in arm-chair it occured to her that she wasn't the first one to sit there in that one.
She was sure that people were curious and wanted to criticize her manners, figure, compare her to Rebecca.
Certainly, Daphne made the mistakes. She broke Rebecca's wedding present, she wore the same dress like Rebecca at the last fancy dress ball at Manderley. After it Max was angry. He thought that she had done it deliberately. Mrs. Danvers hated Daphne. She said that Daphne tried to take Rebecca's place.
Max said that he had killed his first wife. Rebecca wasn't drowned. It was Rebecca who's lying dead there on the cabin floor. But Daphne stayed with him. She didn't want to listen to Max's evidence.
In the end, they wanted to get home. They'll be back to Manderley.
Also, I'd like to say some aspects about Daphne's life:
Daphne's love for Max made her to stay with him in a trouble time. She loved him genuinely. Daphne liked the idea of going to Manderley. She disliked Mrs. Danvers's a cold look. She looked after Max. Daphne didn't feel herself comfortable in Rebecca's house. Max seemed to love his first wife, but it wasn't so. Daphne's behaviour was worthy of great praise. She was stuck by news about Rebecca's killing. She stood with horror- stricken. It seemed to Daphne that she was hardly ever able to win Rebecca. Daphne was afraid that Mrs. Danvers might spoil her life with Max if she always said about Rebecca. Mrs. Danvers's behaviour got on Daphne's nerves. Daphne turned out a strong girl. Daphne's appearance excited everybody's interest at Manderley. I think Mrs. Danvers didn't have got to treat Daphne so cruelly.
